Loughborough University ranked in top ten for teacher training
Loughborough University鈥檚 teacher training has been rated among the best in the UK, in the Good Teacher Training Guide 2008-09.
The University was ranked ninth out of 73 higher education institutions in the league table, which is published by the Centre for Education and Employment Research at the University of Buckingham.
The table is based upon three factors 鈥 the inspection rankings given by the Office for Standards in Education (Ofsted), the qualifications of the entrants, and the percentage of trainees in teaching in the January following graduation. In this latter criteria, Loughborough was ranked third, with 85.1% of its graduates employed in secondary level teaching.
鈥淲e are delighted by our ranking in the guide,鈥 said Dr Jo Harris, head of Loughborough鈥檚 Teacher Education Unit. 鈥淚t is further confirmation of the quality of the teachers emerging from Loughborough who are going on to make significant contributions to education in our schools.鈥
Back in April this year Loughborough鈥檚 teacher training was graded 鈥榦utstanding鈥 鈥 the highest possible category 鈥 by Ofsted. The review found particular strengths in several areas, including: strong leadership; continuous improvement; exciting innovations; outstanding attention to trainees鈥 needs; excellent documentation; and well-designed selection procedures. |
